Perché ad Olevano Romano

Louis le Maire, dottore in giurisprudenza nonché Giudice della Corte Suprema, (di Danimarca) descrive la piccola città di Olevano Romano, nei Monti Sabini, che, dal periodo Romantico ai giorni nostri, ha incantato gli artisti Danesi. (Testo Danese del 1962) Le azzurre cime dei Monti Sabini sono state da sempre una meta allettante per quei Danesi che si stabilivano o che venivano solamente a visitare Roma; tale territorio, su di essi, ha avuto un'indubbia influenza. Le opere che risalgono ad alcuni dei momenti di maggiore interesse dell'arte Danese testimoniano tale ispirazione e se si volesse intraprendere un viaggio alla ricerca di quei luoghi si dovrebbe pensare ad una sorta di pellegrinaggio. Olevano Romano, una cittadina posta a circa cinquanta chilometri dalla Capitale, questa volta sarà la nostra destinazione. Partiamo con l'autobus dalla stazione romana di Viale Castro Pretorio, nella quale riusciamo rapidamente a trovare una vettura che ci permetterà di raggiungere la meta da noi agognata. Il nostro alloggio sarà l'Albergo Roma ai margini della cittadina; la scelta non sarà dettata solamente dal fatto che suddetto albergo è l'unico del posto – cosa che sarebbe in sé motivo sufficiente per giustificare tale preferenza - ma anche perché la citata pensione, nel corso degli anni, è stata molto apprezzata dagli artisti Danesi e dagli altri spiriti culturalmente affini ad essi.

Justice of the Supreme Court, Doctor of Laws Louis le Maire depicts the small town in the Sabine Mountains Olevano Romano, which from the romantic period to present day has attracted Danish artists. (Danish essay from 1962) The blue Sabine mountains have always been a destination with an alluring influence on Danes in Rome. Works of art from some of the best periods in Danish art bear evidence of this, and when we seek out these locations it has to be somewhat of a pilgrimage. Olevano Romano which is about fifty kilometres from the capital will this time be our destination. Thus we depart for the Roman bus centre in Viale Castro Pretorio, where we quickly succeed in finding a coach with the same destination as we have. Our accommodation will be Albergo Roma on the outskirts of town, not only – which in itself would be a sufficient motive – because it probably is the only hotel at the location, but also because the place throughout the years has been highly valued by Danish artists and other like-minded spirits. The hotel is modest in all respects. It is, nevertheless, classy. Each meal under the shadowy foliage is an exquisite delight. Breakfast consists of delicious bread with fresh butter covered by dewy wine leaves.Dinner is supplemented by an ample supply of the local wine, which is free of charge, grown by Franco Zonnino, our excellent inn keeper.
